British Champion 2002

On the run in (picture from CompassSport)

(Age Group Champion in the past, running for SYO)

Last year, he lost most of the season because of a broken arm. This year, his training was rewarded by winning the British Championships. Calm nerves were needed; as he went through the Spectator Control he heard the commentator announce "Dan Marston is in the lead". Somewhat distracting, but he kept his nerve to win by 2 minutes!

On Saturday 18th August 2001 I was listening to an interview with a couple involved in Enigma Code-Breaking during the Second World War and was surprised when I realised that the couple were SYO retired stalwarts Shiela and Oliver Lawn.
